01DIA CUSCO – RAINBOW MOUNTAIN (Vinicunca)

DESCRIPTION OF ITINERARY:
DAY 01: CUSCO – RAINBOW MOUNTAIN (Vinicunca): Early morning a driver and guide will pick you up from the hotel in Cusco (Peru) then you will be driven to Rainbow Mountain which is located 110km away from Cusco and 334km from Puno – Lake Titicaca, during the journey we will take a paved road passing the local villages of Oropesa, Andahuaylillas, Urcos, Quiquijana, and Cusipata for about 82km. Afterwards we turn to the left, where we stop for breakfast at a restaurant. We continue taking an unpaved road in direction to rainbow mountain, driving for 24.50km along the route, immerse in high mountains of Peru and see the difficulty that ranges from moderate to challenging, which is due to high altitude that reaches over 5000m, arriving to Llaqto 4630m (parking), which is the beggining of the trail. Then hiking up of 3.50km for about 01hrs 30 minutes to Vinicunca, enjoying along the way with impressive views to farming terraces, country houses, herds of alpacas and llamas, snow capped mountains (Ausangate). Arrival to rainbow mountain called aswell as Vinicunca, which is 5036m, then free time to explore this area.
Vinicunca or Rainbow Mountain are stained in various hues, this natural coloration is given by the presence of sedimentary stones that were eroded thousands of years ago. Its attraction of the rainbow mountain is based on the impressive formation of stones of different uniform colors as red, purple, green, yellow, pink, turquoise and other variations, which give a shape to the colors of the rainbow. Besides Vincunca mountain is surrounded by snow capped mountains and the red valley, with its unique natural formations. The red valley, this is an extension and takes 20 minutes hike. The red valley is another amazing mountain, where the composition of soil is rich in iron, which gives the color to the valley, where in the lower part is born a river, for its red soil sedimentation, being here is like to be in other planet. Afterwards, we continue to hike downhill to the trailhead, where our transport is taking back to restaurant for lunch prepared with local products. Then return to Cusco, a car trip of 2:00hrs. Arrival in Cusco around 17:00pm, then transfer to hotel.
